I just checked in with my iTunes, and the Exodus International app is “currently unavailable.” We don’t yet know exactly is going on, but we will let you know as soon as possible!
Open question to Apple: What is going on?
UPDATE: A search for the app in the store no longer brings it up as a selection. Stay tuned!
UPDATE DEUX: The last time this happened, with the Manhattan Declaration, Apple quietly pulled the app without fanfare. That seems to be how they do things. I would say, until further notice, that it’s probably gone, baby gone.
And no, LaBarbera, this has nothing to do with “stifling dissent.” This has to do with a private corporation and its stated policies.

This is such great news. More and more it is clearly evident that the app is a danger to lgbt youth. Apple would never allow an app that tried to convince young Jews that they are evil. If Exodus really cared about troubled youth, they would invest in anti-bullying campaigns, counseling, etc — not the absurd goal of changing someone’s orientation.
We don’t know yet. It’s currently an open question.
woohoo! Let’s hope that what is going on is that Apple is doing the right thing :0)
I just did a search for Exodus and it brought up suggestion Exodus International but when I clicked it it sad no search results found. If you just type Exodus other apps appear but not theirs.
Yep. An hour ago if I did a search, ‘Exodus’ ex-gay app appeared among other apps with Exodus in the name. But if you clicked on the ex-gay app, it said not available in the USA. Now if you do a search, the ex-gay app isn’t even visible among any of the choices. It is totally gone!!
I don’t know for sure if my posting just about every article and petition links I could find on the Apple Facebook page to pull the app helped, but I hope so. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Apple/130542590318034?sk=wall&filter=1
It’s a team effort :)
If this is so, good. Ex-Gay ministries exist for one reason: to blame gays for their own persecution.
The rational is: you don’t have to be gay if you don’t want to, so anything bad that happens to you is your own fault. Their purpose isn’t just to make gay people hate themselves, but to allow others…family, neighbors, co-workers, classmates, to hate them with a clear conscience.
Freedom of speech isn’t a license to use other people’s resources to facilitate your message. You’re free to use your own however you wish, but my printing press isn’t your property and Apple’s app store isn’t your pulpit. Corporations doing business with the public have every right to not have their brand associated with hatemongers, and hatemongering is Exactly the only reason that groups like Exodus exist. They are integral tools in the anti-gay industrial complex and this poor world is a little smaller, a little meaner, a little less peaceful and loving, because of their existence.
Well done, everyone.
Bruce, WELL SAID.
I cannot WAIT to hear the bitching and moaning, assuming all IS well, as it seems to be, from the “right” tomorrow.
This site has been great. Time for me to start supporting IT financially (check will go out to VT tomorrow)
Maybe we should all (assuming I am not the only one here who has not supported the site financially…never given during pledge week during Morning Edition…know how to shake the coke machine in the breakroom to get a free soda, type here) support it.
Thanks Evan, Wayne…everyone.
You know…in a way, we have already won. An 85 your old (when he died a few years back) gay man I know says that the difference between him and me, was that, until he was already in his 70′s, he let the rightwingers convince him he WAS dirty, perverted, and should sit quietly in the shadows.
Most of us don’t believe that now. They cannot hurt us anymore. And soon, I really believe, they wont be able to do it to young kids and others who are made to feel guilty for being who we are.
The tipping point IS behind us…and I cannot imagine anyone successfully making most of the posters in here EVER feel like second class people, in second class (or worse) relationships, ever again.
In short…they will win battles, but they have lost the war.
YAY!!!!
[...] UPDATE: According to Truth Wins Out, the app has been quietly pulled from iTunes. [...]
Note to APPLE – APPalling. Ive been buying your products for 20 years, in no small part due to the ‘lifestyle’ aspect of your marketing. I bought my macbookPro not just because it is a good machine but also because of the idea of ‘community’ which is sold along with it – specifically a community of artists, designers, free-thinkers – the outsiders, the edgy, hip, and cool. Allowing a company like Exodus international ANY SPACE whatsoever within your once exemplary line of products is devastating. I’d rather hang out with the PC NERDY Guy in your TV ads now, since that Justin Long Character would probably just call me a FAGOT behind my back. This is serious. Exodus international, beyond being a sham, and a hypocritical bunch of self loathing queens, is a group whose backward ideology directly contributes to a hateful climate in our country today – leading to an alarming rate of suicide amongst gay teenagers – kids killing themselves because they’ve fallen in love. Contemptible, inexcusable, and grievously disappointing. Id like to throw away my computer, the one I now feel has been sold to me under false pretenses – but maybe you’d prefer I use it to go beat up some homos. – You might as well call this app iBash. Blood on your hands Mr Jobs
