Anti-Gay Activists Launch Campaign to Keep TWO’s Wayne Besen Off FOX News

Burlington, Vt. – Truth Wins Out urged FOX News today to ignore pleas by leading social conservative organizations to ban TWO’s Executive Director Wayne Besen from appearances on the cable news network. Those behind the effort – including the American Family Association, Liberty University, and Rep. Sally Kern (R-OK), have launched an incendiary petition with an inflammatory headline: “Bill O’Reilly: STOP helping violent homosexuals kill Christians.”

“This reckless rhetoric creates a dangerous climate and further illustrates why these organizations are accurately labeled hate groups,” said Truth Wins Out’s Executive Director Wayne Besen. “The desperate and misleading effort to link me and others to the FRC shooting – which Truth Wins Out quickly condemned in two public statements and one press release – is outrageous and appalling.”

The provocative petition falsely tries to portray Truth Wins Out’s Wayne Besen and the Southern Poverty Law Center as “accomplices” to the FRC shooting – and conservative FOX’s news host Bill O’Reilly as an enabler. According to the petition:

“Remember the violent homosexual gunman Floyd Corkins who shot a security guard at Family Research Council (FRC) last week… SScreen Shot old2 Inflammatory Petition Links Gay Rights Campaigners to FRC Shooter adly Bill O’Reilly at Fox News is helping the gunman’s associates.  O’Reilly regularly invites Wayne Besen to appear on his show to defend the Southern Poverty Law Center, who was just rebuked by the Washington Post for rhetoric facilitating Corkins’ violence.

In addition to the petition, the anti-gay activists penned a letter and asked other organizations sign on by writing them at the e-mail address WackyWayne666@hotmail.com.

“We would like to thank FOX for so far ignoring these extremists’ demands,” added TWO Communications Director John Becker. “Radical anti-gay activists like the American Family Association, Liberty University, and Sally Kern will stop at nothing in their efforts to defame and destroy those who expose their lies and debunk their misinformation.”
