A Pennsylvania Christian minister, John P. McTernan, is blaming gay people and “pro-homosexual” Mitt Romney and Barack Obama for Hurricane Sandy. McTernan claims “both candidates are pro-homosexual and are behind the homosexual agenda,” and says that, “God is systematically destroying America.”
If you add the area of the drought and now the hurricane together, it would be about 80 percent of the country! As I said, the Holy God of Israel is systematically destroying America right before our eyes.
McTernan, who claims he was a Federal Treasury agent, and claims he has an honorary PhD in Biblical Studies from Calvary Christian College, also says he has written many “best selling” and “acclaimed” books
.
David Badash at the New Civil Rights Movement also found this gem from McTernan’s Facebook page:
Hurricane Sandy is hitting 21 years to the day of the Perfect Storm of October 20, 1991. I write about this in my book as America Has Done to Israel. This was the day that President George Bush Sr. initiated the Madrid Peace Process to divide the land of Israel, including Jerusalem. America has been under God’s judgment since this event. Both of these hurricanes were cause by freakish weather patterns that came together to create
Twenty-one years breaks down to 7 x 3, which is a significant number with God. Three is perfection as the Godhead is three in one while seven is perfection.
It appears that God gave America 21 years to repent of interfering with His prophetic plan for Israel; however, it has gotten worse under all the presidents and especially Obama. Obama is 100 percent behind the Muslim Brotherhood which has vowed to destroy Israel and take Jerusalem. Both candidates are pro-homosexual and are behind the homosexual agenda. America is under political judgment and the church does not know it!

I’m gay and in South Dakota….and all I can say is prayer works….I feel totally responsible. I’m just waiting for the tally on flooded evangelical churches…
And then John P. McTernan was found molesting young children in the backyard???
and yet not a word as to why god hates the Bible belt so much.
And then you wonder why people hate Religion, when you have idiots who think as you do. I left the Church because of idiotic statement like yours. If you remember in your studies that God created the Heaven and Earth and everything in between, including Gay people. Then you will know that God loves everyone. The only people God has ever been vengeful upon is false profits. You may want to be careful when walking across the street God may just show how mighty he can be and strike you down. If you believe in that sort of thing.
There is strange people all over the world.
For me he’s gay and he dont want to say
We gays are some powerful folks!! Maybe we can use our powers to mix up some witches brew and continue casting our spells on folks like him.
Yeah, there are murderers, rapists, thieves, criminals but hurricane is punishment for harmless sexual orientation. Joe kills Peter – thats ok, God says “never mind”. Joe kisses Peter – “God is systematically destroying America.”
Richard Dawkins has a good comment in his book The God delusion: “When I interviewed for television the Reverend Michael Bray, a prominent American anti-abortion activist, I asked him why evangelical Christians were so obsessed with private sexual inclinations such as homosexuality, which didn’t interfere with anybody else’s life. His reply invoked something like self-defence. Innocent citizens are at risk of becoming collateral damage when God chooses to strike a town with a natural disaster because it houses sinners.
In 2005, the fine city of New Orleans was flooded in the aftermath of a hurricane, Katrina. The Reverend Pat Robertson, one of America’s best-known televangelists and a former presidential candidate, was reported as blaming the hurricane on a lesbian comedian who happened to live in New Orleans. You’d think an omnipotent God would adopt a slightly more targeted approach to zapping sinners: a judicious heart attack, perhaps, rather than the wholesale destruction of an entire city just because it happened to be the domicile of one lesbian comedian.”
Whenever fundies start rants like this, I always ask ‘How many good, decent Christians do you think live in the path of these storms? How many do you think are going to be injured, killed, or lose their homes? And WHY are they being punished?’ They never respond.
The best answer to that particular conundrum is Bart Ehrman’s “the god problem.” A terrific read.
It doesn’t say much for their God that he’s such a mean spirited jerk, does it?
What great comments these are. I saved them all for laughs later. McTernan-please don’t shut up! We haven’t had this many laughs since Jerry Falwell said the Purple Teletubby was gay.
@Jerry: God Bless Tinky-Winky…the “Gay Teletubby” whom all children loved! Tinky would be a far better RCC Pope than the troll who lives in the Vatican.
Those who say storms are caused by LGBT people are the same people who reject man made global warming as being unscientific.
Fundamentalist Christian formula:
1. Find natural disaster/catastrophe/bad thing. i.e. Hurricane Sandy, 9/11, earthquakes, running out of donuts.
2. Find group that one opposes/dislikes/fears. i.e. gays, atheists, Muslims.
3. Combine and voila, outrage!
