The conservative Roman Catholic-Mormon antigay group, the National Organization for [Antigay] Marriage, reacted to the defeat of its anti-marriage initiatives in four states on Thursday by vowing to incite antigay Muslim opposition to U.S. companies in the Middle East.
NOM’s exploitation of Islam in pursuit of anti-Americanism is more than a little hypocritical, given the NOM leadership’s contempt for the religion.
NOM’s chairman, Robert George, is a Princeton University professor who co-wrote the Manhattan Declaration which calls upon right-wing Christians to violate laws that are contrary to their own desires — desires that they proclaim to be God’s will. George also sits on the board of the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation, a top U.S. funder of anti-Islamic extremism. George’s war against Islam is contrary to his own Roman Catholic Church’s teachings in favor of interreligious dialogue and respect.
NOM leadership not only defies Catholic teaching on Islam, it also defies church support for immigrants. NOM allies include the anti-immigrant think tank, the Center for Immigration Studies.
NOM’s plan to exploit Muslims became apparent when The American Independent received an invitation to join a NOM post-election conference call. The newspaper recorded the Nov. 8 call.
During the call, NOM president Brian Brown vowed to incite Middle Eastern Muslim opposition to American companies, such as Starbucks Coffee, that support LGBT equality.
“Their international outreach is where we can have the most effect,” Brown said. “So for example, in Qatar, in the Middle East, we’ve begun working to make sure that there’s some price to be paid for this. These are not countries that look kindly on same-sex marriage. And this is where Starbucks wants to expand, as well as India. So we have done some of this; we’ve got to do a lot more.”
Brown also said that NOM would continue to pursue a failed strategy of appealing to economic conservatives who object to social conservatives’ demand for big-government regulation of family life and religious belief.
Until now, NOM has received nearly all of its funding from a few wealthy donors, believed to be the Roman Catholic and Mormon churches. Brown and NOM national political director Frank Schubert promised key supporters that they would work to develop a grassroots network.
Perhaps NOM will develop ties to the immigrant groups that NOM’s major donors have fought so hard against. NOM’s amazing acts of moral self-contortion continue.

Classic “let’s you and him fight” or what? These a******s are playing with fire.
Stirring up anti-gay hate and violence in countries where LGBTs are already persecuted. How very Christian of them.
Interesting that they’re “reaching out” to those “murderous, un-Godly MOOzlimz”…Their desperation is bottomless…
I can see their goal – they just want to hurt the company Starbucks by any means necessary. If this means hurting their international sales, they’re going to do so.
However, gay marriage isn’t even on these nations’ minds right now – these are places where BEING GAY is more often than not, a crime. Using this method to hurt Starbucks at home will probably hurt gay people abroad, in ways much more severe than redaction of civil equality (because they don’t have civil equality to begin with).
NOM has already translated its anti-gay hate speech into Arabic and other languages and put it online together with maps of every last individual Starbucks location in the Middle East. Given the U.S. State Department’s proclamations on gay rights, the State Department should at the very least be keeping an eye on NOM’s unacceptable hate mongering. Furthermore, it should be lost on nobody that NOM appeals to anti-Jewish sentiments among its supporters and its potential supporters. Whenever NOM talks about “elite” supporters of equality, you can be sure that NOM will soon throw a Jewish name into its pitch. In that conference call, for example, the “elite” supporter named is Michael Bloomberg. They might instead have said Brad Pitt, or any of the other non-Jewish supporters of equality, who for obvious reasons are in the majority. But no, NOM is always sure to blow that anti-Semitic dog whistle. That same dynamic is at work in the Starbucks boycott. Boycotting Apple or Microsoft would have much further reach, but those two companies aren’t owned by Jews and Starbucks is. Moreover, standard hardline Arab propaganda has it that all homosexuality in the Middle East is Israel’s “fault.” All of this is directed, not from Brian Brown per se but from Princeton University, its professor Robert George, NOM’s founder and mastermind, and the Opus-Dei-linked Witherspoon Institute, which is right on the Princeton campus. Until the Princeton Board of Trustees finally takes a stand against these hateful gay-bashing bigots and their anti-gay lies, no LGBT and/or ally should have the least thing to do with Princeton, and we should all be telling the public not to attend Princeton or to give it any money.
I can’t recall a more tragic case of sour grapes. The National Organization Against Marriage knows they’ve lost the battle in the United States so out of spite they’re going to stir up hate and violence against gays in the middle east where it can flourish.
So now they’re advocating terrorism abroad, This shows the hatred of NOM.
So who are they supposed to attack, the young Muslim baristas who work there? NOM douchebags would have a Crystal Night against us and every corporation that supports us if they could get away with.
NOM is getting very desperate and dangerous before it becomes irrelevant.
This is a page out of a Scott Lively program.
…and the first time one of these companies stores/franchises is attacked by Radical Muslims because of NOM’s provocations, what will NOM’s response be?
Incitement is a crime and I’m not sure NOM quite understands the potential powder keg they’re setting alight.
This action could very quickly turn back on NOM. Their God help them if an American is harmed from this incitement.
Food for thought.
I am thinking much the same thoughts as you are, Jon. Innocent people are going to be hurt because of NOM’s insidious and incendiary actions, not that it matters in the least to them, as long as they accomplish their hateful, treacherous goals.
This is out and out terrorism.
