It must be an easy job to simply lie and make up facts, rather than do real research.
Mat Staver and Matt Barber are now calling the California law prohibiting “ex-gay” therapy for minors “Jerry Sandusky laws.” They claim that this law will not allow children who are sexually abused to get help. This is a lie.
The law actually helps youth who have been sexually assaulted, because they can find real therapists who can help them work through their issues. Reparative therapists have no expertise on this issue and are only concerned about the clients sexual orientation. This leads to the therapist’s ideology being of paramount concern, not the needs of clients. The worst possible scenario imaginable is for a victim to find themselves in the hands of quacks who have hang-ups about gay people.
Barber falsely says that almost half of all gay men “were sexually assaulted by a homosexual pedophile” and that abuse is what pushed them into a lifestyle filled with disease, depression, and alcoholism. He conveniently fails to mention that studies prove that anti-gay sentiment is what pushes many LGBT youth towards drugs and alcohol. In this sense, he and reparative therapists are the problem, not the solution, since they make gay people feel worse about who they are.
These people are shameless and pathetic. They will do and say anything — no matter how many lives are destroyed — to promote their backward and barbaric beliefs.

What it boils down to is that so-called “faith healing” should never be sold or delivered under the false pretenses that it constitutes science-based health care. Anti-gay bigots are free to have their opinions, but there is no legitimate scientific debate in this.
What I still don’t understand is how a man raping a boy would cause that boy to turn gay. You’d think then opposite conclusion would be drawn. Of course, these are citizens of Wingnutia speaking….
Especially since they think being raped by a man can turn a girl gay. Consistancy and logic are not their strong point.
You mean “turn a girl straight”
Both actually. Yeah.
He’s a douche. And he has a bad weave.
Alright, I’ll run with their cute little theory for a moment. Being molested turns boys gay because 50% (I’m sure they wouldn’t just make this figure up) of gay men were molested as boys. What about the 50% that weren’t molested? What about the boys who didn’t become gay as a result of their molestation? Yup, these guys are like whoah science.
These two are two more who need to get hooked up to penile plethysomgraphs (sp?). Just another couple of sick closet cases who cannot accept who they are and want to delude themselves that this quackery works. As far as I am concerned, the practice should be banned outright. At best it doesn’t work. At worst it warps people emotionally and mentally.
After hearing, once again, how sad, sick, and depraved I am, I feel like killing myself, but I won’t do these basket cases the favor. It’s money, kids. They get money to spew this crap. Here’s one outstanding area where faith and science are really at odds and, unfortunately for these clods, faith hasn’t a leg to stand on.
Yeah, Gianni. Those boys might have to go out and get real jobs in the real world like so many of us have had to do. But they get to play with their “Look at me, I’m important” messianic vision fantasies that have no foundation in the (verifiably) evidenced based world that the rest of us live in. Religion & the religious too often gets a pass on crazy beliefs that would never be acceptable by anybody else.
Of all the lies which these fanatics have used to promote the “ex-gay” fraud and to attempt to justify inflicting it on young people, this must surely be one of the most despicable.
