The Associated Press reports:
A San Francisco lawmaker on Tuesday planned to introduce legislation asking voters to rename the cit
y’s airport after slain gay rights leader Harvey Milk.A charter amendment sponsored by Supervisor David Campos would put the question of creating Harvey Milk-San Francisco International Airport on San Francisco’s November ballot. If five of Campos’ colleagues agree to submit the proposed name change to voters and the amendment goes through in the fall, the city would become home to the world’s first airport honoring an openly gay person, said Milk’s nephew, Stuart Milk.
This would be an incredible way to honor a true hero in the LGBT community’s flagship city. I love the idea because it not only pays homage to Milk, but it educates about the struggle for equal rights. For LGBT youth across the world, flying into San Francisco would become an even more special experience than it already is.

Now wingnuts will call for a boycott of the SF airport — hahaha. Let them land somewhere else and drive the extra distance.
I hope re-naming it after Milk is successful, but I feel kind of bad that Mayor Moscone often gets left out, even though he wasn’t a civil rights pioneer, he was a great ally for us in the early days of the movement.
