A few ignorant yahoos banded together in Indiana to stop gays from attending a high school prom. Ironically, the anti-gay witch-hunt was led by a
witch (the bad kind of witch — wicked-style), Diana Medley, who is a special-education teacher at another area school who claimed allowing gay kids to attend the prom is “offensive to us.” Why she cared what happened at a school where she did not work is a mystery, other than the fact Medley appears to be a busybody with strong opinions on issues she knows virtually nothing about.
In her saccharine way, she played the concerned Christian card, saying she loved gay people, while comparing LGBT students to the special needs children that she teaches. (No offense to special needs kids who are great and don’t need a fool like Medley teaching them)
“It’s the same thing with my special-needs kids,” she said. “I think God puts everyone in our lives for a reason.”
Asked whether gays and lesbians have any “purpose in life,” she replied:
“No, I honestly don’t. Sorry, but I don’t. I don’t understand it.”
So, a teacher on the school district’s payroll believes LGBT students aren’t worth a damn and should be ostracized and shunned from prom? This self-righteous crank needs to get canned as quickly as possible. She is a threat to the mental health and well-being of between 3%-10% of the district’s students. Let’s hope they also take away her pension and donate it to Dan Savage’s It Get’s Better project. There is simply no place for a small-minded, hatemonger who capitalizes on her position of relative power to stigmatize a group of students.
Fortunately, Medley’s crazy crusade isn’t gaining traction. The pastor of the church that hosted the original organizing meeting says the church doesn’t back her effort to throw a straights-only prom.
The movement began after Principal David Springer was asked to clarify whether same-sex couples would be allowed to take part in the traditional grand march before the prom, which is scheduled for April 27.
“Anybody can go to the prom,” Springer told NBC station WTHR of Indianapolis. “Of course, a girl could go out with another girl if they didn’t have a date or that was their choice.”
From Dan Savage: Diana Medley should be fired.
Sign the petition calling for her dismissal and send an email to Mark Baker, the superintendent of the Northeast School Corporation and Diana Medley’s boss. Tell him to fire Diana Medley.

Ms. Medley is, thankfully, a dying breed. More and more people are far more knowledgeable, accepting, and tolerant of diversity. She should be removed from the classroom.
I resent calling her a witch. We witches are all for gay rights. Gay rights are human rights.
This bully should be fired!!
If I were a student in that school, I’d bring another guy as my date and wear a rainbow tux.
During my 25 years of service in the US Navy, it was extremely difficult for me to accept that I was not only serving the just, but also serving Americans who are bigoted and hateful. I signed the petition because this has got to stop, NOW. Commander Robert McNamara, USN, Retired (age 68, hetero married, 3 children)
Wayne,
I love your blunt, tough language about this dunce. That’s what she needs to hear and everyone else who knows her. Let’s hope the district takes your advice and cans her butt.
Two things I’m not sure about.
Were there actually any gay couples planning to attend the prom?
And would the Principal be okay with two guys going together if they “didn’t have dates”?
There is a gay couple atteding and the school is all for it. This ignorant intolerant woman is encouraging a seperate prom that would only allow straight kids to attend on the side. The school is certainly not allowing her and her group to change their stand in any way, in fact they’re trying to distance themselves from her as much as possible.
Thanks, I’ve heard nothing bad about the school.
Christian, huh? Feel the love, people? I sure do! I’d like to know: If we are like special-needs kids, what does she advocate for them? Shutting them away and keeping them away from the normals like her? People like this need to be trampled into the mud like the dirt she is. Christian my a*s!
What she must think of special needs people who are gay! Just thinking of the possibility would cause her head to pop. BTW, my beautiful Bf is special needs, Cerebral Palsy–I wouldn’t trade for any any other. Happy Valentines day my love—and to all of you.
