kinkyboots 300x166 One Million Moms Very Upset At Macys For Exposing Children To Popular Broadway MusicalI guess the One Million (minus 970,000 or so) Moms won’t be taking any New York trips any time soon (they were never visiting New York in the first place), because they are so mad at Macy’s and the Broadway Musical Kinky Boots, for the crime of exposing innocent children to a fun, life-affirming performance during the Thanksgiving Day Parade. If there’s one thing Monica Cole, the CEO/missive-firer of OMM does not like, it’s joy and a full embrace of life, sans abject shame:

As a parent and a member of OneMillionMoms.com, I am greatly disappointed in your company’s choice to include the “Raise You Up” drag performance during your Thanksgiving Day Parade with millions of children present and watching from home. It is inappropriate to highlight cross-dressing in a sexually charged performance during a traditional family activity. Your blatant agenda and in-your-face message was quite offensive, and Macy’s cannot be trusted. Shame on Macy’s for promoting this behavior. It is clear that Macy’s does not have my children’s best interest in mind. I can no longer trust Macy’s Dept. Store. Your company needs to know that trust must be earned and once trust is lost it is difficult to get back.

“Raise You Up” was not suitable for families for many reasons. The inappropriate act starred Kinky Boots, referencing a musical written to celebrate the differences in each other and included: (all) the men and women in thigh-high boots [mostly red pleather while others were sparkly "hooker" boots], a man in boxer shorts and men in burlesque and Moulin rouge costumes prancing around expressing themselves,

Expressing themselves! Heaven forfend!

RuPaul (famous drag queen)

Not RuPaul.

along with several men dressed in drag, transgender and transvestites, singing and dancing as an expression of “diversity” and honoring whatever sexuality you want.

The performance was sexually charged and quite offensive. Here are some, but not all of the lyrics to the song they chose to sing, to give you a better idea:

Celebrate you to elevate you!

Ladies, Gentlemen, and those who have yet to make up their minds.

Instill the truth… learn something new.

Accept yourself and you’ll accept others too.

Let love shine… let pride be your guide.

Change the world when you change your mind.

Just be who you wanna be.

You’re beautiful; it’s beautiful!

Those lyrics are, again, life-affirming and beautiful. Monica Cole of One Million Moms, however, sees them and sees evil. How twisted fundamentalists really are.

Shame on Macy’s for promoting this. We cannot trust Macy’s Dept. Store any longer. This is the straw that broke the camel’s back. It is clear that Macy’s does not have our children’s best interest in mind. Macy’s needs to know that trust must be earned and once trust is lost it is difficult to get back.

Monica doesn’t really clarify all of Macy’s other offenses, those which would lead to this being the “straw that broke the camel’s back,” but to be fair, she probably doesn’t know what that expression means. I have a suggestion, though, for Monica:  maybe you should just stop participating in American culture. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a New York City event, and if you can’t handle one of the top musicals currently running in the greatest theater district in the cultural center of the world, then maybe you just shouldn’t participate. Nobody is going to change for you.

Here’s the video of that performance, in case you missed it:
