The speaker of Uganda’s parliament is accusing Canada of denying some of her fellow lawmakers visas for an Inter-Parliamentary Union conference — and she is falsely accusing Canada of doing so due to the Ugandans’ opposition to marriage equality.
The latest dispute began Monday when Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird criticized Uganda, Syria, and Iran for their atrocious human rights records, including the government-supported killing of religious and sexual minorities.
Baird’s statement occurred before some 1,400 international parliamentarians who were meeting for the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Quebec. According to The Canadian Press, Canada made little if any effort “to stop the presence of legislators from those countries at the 127th conference of the IPU, which Canada is hosting this year.”
Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament Rebecca Kadaga responded by accusing Baird of “arrogance” and “ignorance.” Kadaga demanded an apology. “If homosexuality is a value for the Canadian people, that’s not a problem for us, that’s it’s issue, but one shouldn’t force Ugandans to accept homosexuality because we’re not Canadian citizens,” Kadaga said, reportedly receiving applause from the conference floor.
Baird responded to the various nations’ objections: “I know staying silent is never an option when people stone women, when they hang gays, when they incite genocide, when they say they want to wipe the Jewish people and the Jewish state off the map, when they dishonour their UN obligations, when they spread hateful and racist rhetoric.”
Kadaga escalated the dispute on Tuesday, according to Uganda’s Daily Trust, which reported only Kadaga’s perspective and not that of Canadian officials.
First Kadaga accused Canada of denying visas and provided a dubious reason for the supposed denial; Canada did not exclude other nations that do not recognize marriage equality, and likely excluded Uganda parliamentarians who are known to support genocide. Just two weeks ago, during celebrations of Uganda’s 50th anniversary of independence, parliamentarian Cecilia Atim Ogwal was among those who publicly called upon all of Africa to support Uganda’s final solution. Visiting lawmakers from Namibia and South Africa criticized Ogwal’s proposal, according to Box Turtle Bulletin.
Kadaga also said that antigay parliamentarians had refused to allow the Quebec conference organizers to pre-review their speeches for offensive or genocidal content.
Ugandan officials have frequently mischaracterized international human-rights concerns as a fight over “gay marriage,” in order to deflect global attention from Uganda’s ongoing campaign to legalize the execution of all homosexuals and to imprison family members, health professionals, and peers who support nondiscrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.

The collary of rabbit and wolves population getting extinct on account of their large population is mere lies and for academic foolery because it does not and cannot happen otherwise why are there wolves or rats in our midst!
You call Africa poor, yes perhaps, but why is it that you in the west always scheming for our resources, if you are that better off?. Look at your care for your aged parents who are left to die in infirmaries as if you can’t look after them in their old age as if they never looked after you when you were babies.
The only schemers are the same people who are trying to convince you to wipe out your gay community so they can distract you through your gullibility.
RainbowPhoenix, There is no genocide. It is your imagiantion. Otherwise what we are tring to do is simply to tell you that we should never be pushed to accet pactices which are not in our culture. PERIOD
Human rights are universal, or else they would not be human rights. No culture can usurp human rights, whether they be the rights of women, children, Indians, Africans, Tutsis, Muslims, heterosexuals or LGBTs.
The right to be LGBT is owned by the LGBT individual, not the state nor the culture nor tradition. No one can take that right away or deny that it exists. On the contrary, the state is bound to protect it.
The protection of human rights is the main purpose of states. States that attack rather than protect human rights do not have the right to exist. International intervention is mandated to stop or prevent genocide and gross human rights abuses.
LGBTs are much like canaries in a mine. When they are attacked, it is a warning signal that all minorities may be attacked.
Not yet, but since you’re trying to exterminate your gay community that’s where you’re heading. At the behest of the scheming westerners no less.
The Gay community imagined is not to be encouraged to behave as if the pervasion they have is a free choice. They must abide by the rules and the laws of the land. Uganda is sovereign and should not be pushed to accept certain mannerisims just because they come from the west or east as long as these things affect our social setup negatively. We have our values that must be respected as much as we respect other peoples values.
Eresu, your word salid is pretty hard to understand, I’m not sure if its because your english isn’t great or your ideas are just disjointed but I suspect its the latter.
Either way, what you said about China and India didn’t make any sense and the truth remains that the vast majority of people in either country live in poverty and both have taken dramatic steps to limit population growth because they accept the reality that the earth’s resources are limited and cannot support an unlimited population.
If people like you have your way and the human population continues to grow geometrically there will be a massive die-off of humans at some point in the future when the needs of the population deplete and exceed the resources of the planet to sustain them. We’re already seeing this with shortages of fresh water, oil, and raw materials which are driving prices higher and higher and depriving poor people of the ability to have them.
Africa has never and can never sustain itself with people alone. Natural resources are required and there is a natural limit to those and unchecked population growth in Africa will consume all those resouces and cause massive starvation and envionmental destruction around the world – us responsible people in the west will ultimately pay with you for your irresponsibility. These are the facts, they cannot be changed, there is a limit to how many people the earth can support and disaster is the inevitable result of a human population that will not stop growing.
Every few years we see hoards of starving Africans on Television begging the west for food and money. This proves Africa is overpopulated. You give us nothing in return and all we ask of you is that you treat all your citizens well and like the evil people you are you refuse to do even that.
There have always been gay people in Africa and as they are the product of heterosexuals there will always be gay people in Africa. This has not prevented the heterosexual population from breeding far beyond the earth’s capacity to sustain them so your idea that gay people present a threat to the survival of humans is total and complete nonsense.
Gayness does not need to be legitimized, anything that does not harm others is legitimate so gayness is legitamate and your attempts to destroy this innocent group of people are illegitimate – you are the essence of evil.
You come here displaying tremendous ignorance about the world, history and nature, telling lie after lie. In fact the population with AIDS in Africa is overwhelmingly heterosexual and several times larger than the number of people with AIDS in western countries. This is partly as a result of Africa’s refusing to address the real problems affecting it instead choosing to waste time and resources oppressing a harmless group of people.
Your ignorance of African history is appalling. Gays have always existed in Africa and in many of the original African cultures were accepted as an important part of society. Far from slavery bringing gayness to Africa, slavery and western colonialism brought Africa intolerance of innocent gays and forced the white man’s religion on Africans which you have accepted as your own due to your weakness.
The heart of morality is “Do whatever you want but harm no one.” Gayness is by definition moral and your attempts to eradicate gays are by definition evil.
No one is taught to be gay, gays are born to heterosexuals. A percentage of the children of heterosexuals will always be gay. Africa can never get rid of its gays, as you kill them off new ones are born to heterosexuals every day. Stop your evil ways and live with your innocent neighbours in peace as morality demands.
If your values are that a group of innocent people needs to be exterminated, than those values deserve nothing less than global condemnation. When your attempts at extermination is at the behest of the scheming westerners you condemn, it just makes you look gullible and hypocritical in addition to genocidal.
Lynn, my english is not as good and this confirms I am just different from you and this will never be my first language as it could be the case with you. The point however is that you need to know is that different people have different cultures and in this way they have different values. This is what you in the west will never understand. You imagine what is good for you is good for evrybody. This is amistake you must correct. besides to state gayism is harmless is perhaps correct with your society but to us in Africa this is not the case. I have laboured tto tell you that the African family values are greatly harmed by this practice. This is the reason why we hate it.
Eresu said “The collary of rabbit and wolves population getting extinct on account of their large population is mere lies and for academic foolery because it does not and cannot happen otherwise why are there wolves or rats in our midst!”.
Your ignorance of a well documented and fundamental feature of nature is shameful – you are the student here, not the teacher. The natural boom/bust cycle of animal species usually doesn’t result in the species dying out altogether, it results in most members of the species dying until the few remaining ones living can live on the reduced amount of food still available and their population continues to grow again until the next bust cycle. In fact sometimes the degree to which an overpopulated species does eat itself out of house and home does result in the species dying out altogether. That has happened with thousands and thousands of species over the billions of years the earth has been around. More species have gone exitinct in the history of the earth than exist on the planet today. Don’t think for one second that mankind can’t overpopulate to eat itself out of house and home, this is the natural cycle of all nature and we are not exempt from the laws of nature.
Esuru said “You call Africa poor, yes perhaps, but why is it that you in the west always scheming for our resources, if you are that better off?.”.
Why are you concerned about your resources if overpopulation is never a concerned? The only reason you are concerned about your resources is that they are limited and the greater the population of Africa and the world the less will be available for you as an individual. It is the most fundamental law of nature that resouces have a limit and can never support an unlimited population. Humans must accept this and limit reproduction to replacement levels or suffer a massive die-off and possible extinction – there is no way around it.
Esuru said “Look at your care for your aged parents who are left to die in infirmaries as if you can’t look after them in their old age as if they never looked after you when you were babies.”.
Again, your ignorance of the world around you is shameful. Our western parents are cared for much better than your African parents. Our parents live longer and healthier lives, that’s why the life expectancy is much higher in the west than in Africa. The percentage of babies that die in childbirth and children that die young is far higher in Africa than it is in Western countries. By every measure Africa suffers from much higher social dysfunction than western countries and that is largely caused by Africans having much larger families than Westerners, families they can’t afford to support properly and which result in far more Africans living in poverty and despair than Westerners.
Cultural relativism is not the same thing as moral relativism eresu. Some things are objectively bad. Like wiping out distinct groups of people. If your cultural values say that a group of people need to be exterminated, then that is a problem that needs to be corrected immediately. We will not stand idly by while you attempt the genocide of our African brethren. You are not the victim. You are only recieving the just retaliation for your attacks on innocent people.
Esuru said “The Gay community imagined is not to be encouraged to behave as if the pervasion they have is a free choice.”.
People have a moral right to do whatever they want as long as they aren’t harming others. Gayness harms no one and thus people have a moral right to engage in it.
Esuru said “They must abide by the rules and the laws of the land.”.
Just as individuals owe a debt to society society owes a debt to individuals – there must be a balance. The societies that thrive the best are those that recognize individuals shouldn’t be slaves to society, that everyone should have an equal chance to thrive and live as they choose as long as they aren’t harming others. Gays harm no one and thus it is in society’s best interest to allow them to live freely as they choose just as it allows heterosexuals to do.
Esuru said “Uganda is sovereign and should not be pushed to accept certain mannerisims just because they come from the west or east as long as these things affect our social setup negatively.”.
Gayness does not come from the west or east, it has existed in every human society throughout all of history. Gayness is a normal, natural and healthy variant of human sexuality and doesn’t affect society negatively in every way therefore society is morally obligated to help gays thrive and be happy just as gays are morally obligated to help society thrive and be happy. Without individuals society is nothing, it does not exist and that’s why society must treat all those who don’t harm others, including gays, fairly.
Esuru said “We have our values that must be respected as much as we respect other peoples values.”.
The african value which treasures beating, oppressing, and executing innocent gays deserves no respect. Africa deserves nothing but contempt for this “value”. It is only when Africa respects all harmless people equally that it will have earned the respect of moral people around the world.
Esuru said “The point however is that you need to know is that different people have different cultures and in this way they have different values.”.
Some people value murdering and stealing, some people value rape. Some values are bad and some are good, no one should tolerate evil values regardless of what culture they belong to. There is good and there is evil and just because you value evil is not a reason for us to say this is okay – it is not.
Esuru said “This is what you in the west will never understand. You imagine what is good for you is good for evrybody. This is amistake you must correct.”.
It is you who is mistaken, not us. Oppressing and executing gays doesn’t benefit your life or Africa in anyway but it does harm gays so your attacks on gays aren’t justified in anyway. You plead and plead for us to recognize what is good for you and your right to good things but you refuse to give gays the same thing you ask for. Justice demands that all people in a country be treated equally, have equal opportunity to pursue life, freedom, and happiness. If you won’t give this to gays you have no right to ask that anyone else give it to you. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Esuru sad “besides to state gayism is harmless is perhaps correct with your society but to us in Africa this is not the case.”.
It is just as true in Africa as it is in the west. Two gay men marrying and having sex in Africa doesn’t affect you in anyway whatsoever. It doesn’t steal your money or break your leg so you owe it to gays to allow them to live as they please without you stealing their money or breaking their legs.
Esuru said “I have laboured tto tell you that the African family values are greatly harmed by this practice. This is the reason why we hate it.”.
You have laboured to tell me this because it isn’t true. It isn’t a labour to tell people what is true, its easy. That is why you struggle to justify the lie that Africans are harmed by gayness – they aren’t. A gay couple getting married and having sex doesn’t prevent any heterosexual African from living however they please so naturally there is no way you can justify oppressing them and that is why you labour so futilely here.
If Africans value beating, oppressing, and executing innocent gays that is not a value that deserves respect. We will never respect those who value harming innocent people. You deserve nothing but contempt for the way you Africans treat gay people.
…..
Well said.
>“We have our values that must be respected as much as we respect other peoples values.”
In reality, your homophobia is something that was imposed on your by western missionaries and colonizers. Before that non-gender conforming behavior was accepted in many African tribes within certain limits. Just like it was among native North Americans. Your anti-gay laws are also something that have been imposed first by the British and now inspired by American evangelicals.
Lynn, do you know who invened the gillotine?. Is it African. Do you know who put invented guns?. Do you know who exterminated the red indians?. Do you knowwho was Francis Drake was and why he was knighted a ‘sir’?. Do you know the word n****r and who invented it?. And many others. If you answer all these questions well and honestly then you will have known if Africans are that oppressive.
The biggest headache is to convince you that gayism is not in the interest of Africans because our value system is not compartible with it.The practice is abhored and is socially unacceptable. By the way may I know whether your dad is /was a woman and your mum is/was a man and if they were gayyou would be around.
Your biggest headache is your attempt to justify oppressing innocent people and attempting to commit genocide against them. Being oppressed in the past does not justify being oppressive today. Hatred such as yours is not in the best interest of anybody. There is not, and will never be a justification for the crimes against humanity you are trying to commit.
The biggest problem I have is to convince you to see the light that homosexuality is not compatible with African cultures. It is un African. There is no opression here. By the way most of those people coming from Africa seeking asylum in the west claiming oppression for being gay are just using it as a pretext to enter your countries. They are infact gay. But because they want visas to come they touch you people on your soft spot; HOMOSEXUALITY!
No. homosexuality and transgenderism are deeply rooted in pre-colonial African cultures. Why else would there be names for them in tribal languages?
That is patently false. The examples are too numerous to mention
Some asylum seekers who are not gay fraudulently claim that they are, but not all are. And the number of Africans who are persecuted due to homophobia vastly outnumbers the few that are able to leave their country and seek asylum.
Far too many LGBT youths die from suicide after being kicked out from their homes and schools.
You don’t realize that what you consider “African values” is western religious fanaticism that was imposed on you with force. Fanaticism that every western country except the US has grown out of.
Your biggest problem is that you can not come up with any excuse that will make us accept your efforts to commit genocide against your countries gay community. Hiding behind an incorrect usage of cultural relativism does not give you the moral high ground.
Eresu said “The biggest headache is to convince you that gayism is not in the interest of Africans because our value system is not compartible with it.”.
The reason that is such a big headache for you is that your oppression of gays is unjust and its impossible for you to portray your actions as moral.
Your values are immoral so the west is morally obligated to encourage you to stop your evil ways and give your gay citizens the same right to life, freedom and pursuit of happiness that you have.
Eresu said “The practice is abhored and is socially unacceptable.”.
The only practice that society can justify abhoring is that which harms others. Gayness harms no one so it is your society that is wrong, it is your society that is unacceptable, not gays.
Eresu said “By the way may I know whether your dad is /was a woman and your mum is/was a man and if they were gayyou would be around.”.
What does it matter? Almost all gays are born to heterosexuals and many gays and lesbians have born children. If your mom and dad decided they didn’t want to have children would you be around? Would the fact that you wouldn’t be around mean its wrong for a heterosexual couple to decide they didn’t want a child or any more children? Obviously not.
There are too many people in the world now and the population continues to grow well beyond the rate required to maintain steady population levels. The world needs more gays and lesbians, not less of them.
Eresu said “The biggest problem I have is to convince you to see the light that homosexuality is not compatible with African cultures.”.
You can’t convince us of that for the same reason you can’t convince us 2+2=7 – its not true. Of course its a big problem for you to convince us of what is not true, you’ll never overcome that problem. The gay couple down the street marrying and having sex doesn’t prevent any heterosexual African from doing whatever he or she wants, it doesn’t stop any heterosexal african from performing any cultural activity they want so gayness is perfectly compatible with African culture.
Eresu said “It is un African.”.
That’s a lie. Gayness has existed in every human culture throughout all of history. Everywhere where there are heterosexuals having children some of those children will be gay. Gayness is 100% African. Gayness is as African as black skin, lions, and zebras.
Eresu said “There is no opression here.”.
You lie with incredible boldness and immoral lack of concern for the truth. You yourself have said you won’t accept your gay bretheren having the same right as you to live in Africa in freedom. You yourself have said you won’t allow gays to marry and have a sex life just like you heterosexuals do. You are oppressing gays, your country imprisons gays and is trying to pass a law that will allow execution of gays. Your newspapers publish the names and addresses of gays and demands that Africans hang gays. Outside your laws heterosexual Africans like you seek out gays, rob them, beat them, and kill them. You know all this and yet you come here expecting us to believe your lie that there is no oppression of gays in Africa?!
You truly are an evil, lying scumbag.
And Eresu, you don’t speak for all Africans, many Africans value gayness and want it to be part of their country. Gay Africans have just as much right to Africa as you do.
And Eresu. Am Ugandan, and i know my culture, I go for Introductions, i attend legislative meetings, I participate in planning for your country, i eat the same food you eat, i treat the children of this land, i take care of a family, i have my own traditions totally different from yours (depending on the name u used here) My culture is totally different, but i can not start imposing my culture on you because yours is also different but that never changes the fact that you and me are Ugandans.
What you need to know is that even your siblings have a specific way of raising their children in their own families, You have no right to tell them how to raise their kids. What makes you think that because you sleep with the opposite sex then you are better than the other? I might be sleeping with the same sex and am much more useful to society than you are. How can you start making decisions depending on what you read or what your mother taught you? Thats very shallow minded of you to manage your decisions based on what your mother taught you yet it applies to the rapidly increasing population. You need to grow man bse at some point you will loose one of the most important people in your life and you start regreting. Yes they can pass all the bills they want but not at the expense of 34 Million Ugandans. Do some consultations, have two parties represented and then make a decision.
Titus, you are defiinately not a Ugandan. If you were then this kind of thinking is of a person of some weird mind. Either you need to see a doctor or get seriou cancelling, my brother Titus.
You are willfully ignorant Eresu. Gays are the product of heteorsexuals and have existed in every society throughout history – many Ugandans are gay and every major mental health organization agrees gayness is a normal, natural, and healthy variant of human sexuality.
Pull your head out of the sand and get an education.
