If you are a Drag Race fan, you know that one of the hallmarks of the show is its pure, unadulterated message of acceptance and love for oneself. It’s a catchphrase, but the thing that Ru says at the end of the show — “If you can’t love yourself, how the hell you gonna love somebody else, can I get an amen?” — is actually a quite profound truth. In this clip, RuPaul talks about his own journey toward that sort of self-acceptance, the need to extricate shame from the LGBT community and the love of his life.
Also, congratulations to winner Jinkx Monsoon, who seems to be one of the worthiest winners in the history of the show. She seems to have a heart for social justice and for LGBT youth in particular, as she explains in this interview, as she credits much of her success in life to the LGBT youth group she was a part of in Portland back in the day.
