mags 300x170 Maggie Gallagher Wants To End Cruel Homophobia Without Ending Cruel HomophobiaJeremy caught this from Maggie Gallagher, writing at National Review:

“I personally still cherish the hope that we can as a society eliminate cruel homophobia without jettisoning heteronormativity — which is the need for social norms and institutions to be oriented strongly around the problem and the blessing that sex between men and women makes babies.”

What? God. Let’s unpack this. One of the primary places “cruel homophobia” comes from is heteronormativity! As long as people are able to live under the presumption that people of different sexual orientations are some kind of frightening “other,” only to be dealt with if you absolutely have to, then hate crimes are going to continue! Moreover, no one is trying to deny the fact that sex between women and men makes babies. (Kind of a non sequitur, I think, Maggie.)  But when you have an entire movement that lives and dies by the mantra that if LGBT people are treated equally, straight Americans will be victimized, you are not going to “eliminate cruel homophobia,” but rather perpetuate it.

Sorry, Maggie, but this is one of those situations where you are either part of the problem or you are part of the solution.
