This morning I joined approximately fifteen LGBT advocates who protested in front of St. Patrick’s cathedral in New York City. Demonstrators urged the Pope to tell the truth and hold those accountable who sexually molested youth in the church.
There was also a single counter-protester who showed his support for the Catholic Church by blaming the Jews and the New York Times for the priest scandal.
Wayne Besen is the Founding Executive Director of Truth Wins Out and author of “Anything But Straight: Unmasking the Scandals and Lies Behind the Ex-Gay Myth” (Haworth, 2003). In 2010, Besen was awarded the “Visionary Award” at the Out Music Awards for organizing the American Prayer Hour, an event which shined a spotlight on the role American evangelicals played in the introduction of Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Bill.

The Cathoic Church is sickening. ALL the bishops from the Pope on down should resign. You can believe these men have known for YEARS that these children were being sexually abused (some may have even been in on the abuse themselves)and did NOTHING. These men are scum in the eyes of all decent people.
I loved the sign, “Priests can “have” kids–but I can’t have a husband?” This sums up the hypocrisy of the Roman Catholic Church perfectly!!
Glad to see the protest happen. It needs to happen in more and more places. Oh, and why is there no government investigation of this abuse in the US? If you commit a crime, you need to pay the appropriate legal penalties for it.
I like how he made a reusable sign out of recycled materials. So so very eco friendly.
