“Ex-gay” activist D.L. Foster’s anti-Christian web site “GCM Watch” strives to drive same-sex-attracted and sexually honest people away from Christianity, via stereotypes and ostracism wrapped in Scripture-lite godtalk.
A blog post last week spotlighted Brittany Ursery, Foster’s latest poster child for women seeking freedom from masculinity. And of course, profit is a factor — Ursery is selling her story for $15 a pop.
Foster’s interview with Ursery posits that there is a singular “homosexual subculture” and in that culture, the women are expected to be “studs.”
Ursery’s flimsy perspective on sexual attraction: “Based on what I’ve been told by quite a few youth I’ve talked to, they are preconditioned to accept homosexuality because of [name calling, hormones, distance from one's family]. Just the other day a young lady told me how she always thought her sisters were more pretty then her, and how she used to get teased. She figured since nobody accepted her she would just rebel and turn to homosexuality. So those factors can and do influence a young person’s choices about their sexuality.”

“She figured since nobody accepted her she would just rebel and turn to homosexuality.”
sure, that’s how it works. just like, one morning i woke up and thought to myself: “you know what i have a taste for? VAGINA.”
Well, I know that homosexuality isn’t something you just turn to because I have NEVER EVER woken up and thought to myself that I have a taste for VAGINA. LOL

I bet a lesbian identified transgirl like myself kinda blows that whole assumption out of the water. I have some masculinity, I suppose – but not a whole lot. I guess I fail as a lesbian…
What do I tell my girlfriend?
Yeah, I have definitely considered myself to be somewhat androgynous, and always have been since childhood, but never a “stud.” Seriously? Gimme a break. Does my long hair and the fact that I shave my legs disqualify me for being attracted to the same sex?
also, has this woman even seen Portia DeRossi?
I wish people who write books, even if they are total crap, would learn basic grammar before putting pen to paper, or finger to keyboard.
….she always thought her sisters were more pretty then her, and how she used to get teased… Brittany that would be, *prettier than she*!
I guess she flunked English as well as Science, Sociology, and Psychology.
“Foster’s interview with Ursery posits that there is a singular “homosexual subculture” and in that culture, the women are expected to be “studs.””
ROFL. I’ve spent quite a bit of time in “homosexual subculture” and never encountered that. Could it be she’s full of crap?
Out of morbid curiosity I looked up the gcm watch website. Wowsers. Quite the “love”-fest over there for the homosexual. ::shudder::
Don’t know if anyone is still looking for updates on this post but I read Brittany’s book and she completely breaks down some examples of different attractions within the gay community. She just says that SHE was a stud, not that all homosexual women are studs. She also explains “femmes”, “stems”, etc. and different relationship “rules” in the black gay community.
Based on this woman’s descriptions of “homosexual” attraction I’m not sure I believe she was ever actually living as a “homosexual”. I know there are these subcultures but they’re hardly the norm anymore.
And Gary, I agree. The whole “then” “than” confusion is one of my pet peeves and it’s so prevalent now that I’m worried “than” will completely disappear.
