A Truth Wins Out undercover operation exposed Michele and Marcus Bachmann this week for the charlatans that they truly are – and just in time for election season. The couple had claimed that their “Christian” clinic, Bachmann & Associates, did not try to convert LGBT people into heterosexuals.
Truth Wins Out proved that they lied.
Our investigation consisted of attending five therapy sessions at Bachmann & Associates with hidden cameras. At the clinic, TWO’s John Becker was directed by a counselor to act more masculine, pray to Jesus, and start appreciating women’s breasts. The results of our operation unmasked the Bachmann family and definitively proved that their clinic counseled clients to “pray away the gay.”
The results of our investigation broke in The Nation magazine and ABC World News with Diane Sawyer. TWO spokespeople were interviewed by: ABC’s Nightline and Good Morning America, NBC’s Today Show, MSNBC’s Live with Al Sharpton and Hardball with Chris Mathews, The Ed Schultz Show, MSNBC News with Thomas Roberts and The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell. A dialogue about our investigation was aired on several other shows including CNN’s AC360, Comedy Central’s Colbert Report and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher. On Sunday, The New York Times will discuss our investigation and on Tuesday, I will appear on HLN’s The Joy Behar Show.
I want to take a brief timeout from our work exposing people like Michele and Marcus Bachmann to ask for your generous support. Truth Wins Out isn’t just talk – we work tirelessly and get the job done. We turn information into action and our results are tangible.
Please consider a tax-deductible gift to Truth Wins Out today.
In 2011, we have consistently broken major stories and effectively advocated for LGBT equality:
- TWO launched a Change.org petition gathering 160,000 signatures that led to Apple dumping an Exodus International “ex-gay” iPhone app.
- TWO broke the story of comedian Tracy Morgan’s recent homophobic rant in Nashville – which led to Morgan publicly apologizing.
We are excited by what we have accomplished (with only three staff members) – but there is so much more to do! Truth Wins Out wants to continue fighting anti-gay lies and spotlighting religious extremists like Michele and Marcus Bachmann.
However, we can only do so with your commitment to and investment in Truth Wins Out. If you can give a tax-deductible gift of $1,000, $500, $100, or $35 we’d greatly appreciate it. If your budget allows $25 or $15 – we need your help today.
Your support in any amount is the cornerstone of our success. Be part of the next victory now!

Go after Exodus and NARTH. Discredit them in the eyes of the public and the anti-gay movement will suffer, if not fall like a house of cards.
Charlatans exposed, perfectly accurate description, let the truth win out.
JeremiaaA:
The controversy is two-fold.
1) Marcus Bachmann denied that his practice engaged in “ex-gay” therapy. We proved that he lied. This is a big deal, considering his wife is running for president on a “family values” platform. I’m no biblical scholar, but I do recall something about thou shall not lie. So, this is a credibility and honesty issue for the Bachmann clan.
2) As much as some Christians would like to think they are somehow special and different — they are human beings like everyone else. Just because a clinic practices “Christian” therapy — does not mean the clients are not harmed when unscientific, ideological methods are used instead of legitimate therapy. Christians are no less deserving of good mental health counseling as anyone else. A gay person is not considered mentally ill whether he or she goes to a secular or Christian counselor. So no counselor should be practicing such psychological voodoo.
Jeremiah is a shill for the anti-ex-gay industry. I would not be usrprised if he had the same isp address as becky and her firends. He post regularly at huffpost iwth the same stuff.
I wouldn’t bother answering him.
Wayne,
A good friend of mine believes the Abramic God to be a demon, hence voodoo spells are an covert part of our psychic genetic culture. Considering all religious wars, attacks on women blacks and gays, your “voodoo” spell comments, though they are most likely tongue ‘n cheek, when all is added up, may be closer to the truth than we might all care to entertain, much less admit.
Oh looky here. JeremiahA from HuffPost on yet another GLBT site? You’re starting to look like Johnb123, sniffing out gay sites to post at. Oh, and why should Xtians get a “pass” when they’re caught out lying? I consider it just the Xtian version of “taquiyya”–religious lying to get whatever result you want.
Interesting insight, iDavid. There are pagans who consider much of what passes as religion as “fundamentalist (of whatever variety) prayer sorcery. So I think you may be on the right track here.
Wayne, is there some other way to donate than via Pay Pal. I just don’t do Pay Pal having had problems in past. However I would love to donate to the cause if you have an alternative to Pay Pal. I consider this fight against the fundies to be VERY important.
Rest assured, we are deleting comments from as many undesirables and lowlifes as possible. I’m guessing they are paid shills from “ex-gay” organizations. They feel very threatened by our work. Wimps like Alan Chambers are even too cowardly to debate me on TV. So, these types come to our blog to post misinformation. Lies will be deleted, so these types should stop wasting their time.
@ Wayne
I think you have hit the nail on the head. Its is all very well these hateful proles posting anonymously on blogs and discussions, but I think the big difference between us and them is that we would be more than happy to go on national TV and share our views with everyone – I truly doubt that the likes of Jeremiah, Chief et al would be willing to repeat verbatum what they have said here if all could see who they are.
Although that said, I still think these types of post should be left for all to see. As I said in a previous post in particular reference to elsa:
I think maybe you should leave her comments for all to see, highlighting the the hateful bigoted pseudo-fascist she actually is.
No matter how offensive, her comments in the end only go to serve our cause, and inexorably diminish hers.
TTFN!
PHxxx.
Something that didn’t cross my mind; could the expose just serve to solidify her conservative voting base?
Have a look at the following article in the Independent:
http://blogs.independent.co.uk/2011/07/18/michele-bachmann-and-the-homophobia-vote/
Makes for interesting reading (althought they insist on refering to TWO as ‘Truth Will Out’!)
Peter, it may very well solidify the anti-gay part of her base–but they were already pretty solid and would never vote for her opponent in the actual election. It may, however, scare off more independents, more moderate and fiscal conservatives.
@Merlyn,
With a name like Merlyn it makes sense you’d “get it”. lol
I was thinking the same thing about PayPal until I saw a check box where you could make a donation with a credit card and sidestep PayPal. Check it out as it’s there and does work.
