Every time I think that the gay wingnut group GOProud has sunk to the lowest possible level of organized self-loathing, they find a way to strap the cilice on just a little bit tighter. It is well documented that Michele Bachmann does not like gay people. She considers her own lesbian family member’s sexuality to be “part of Satan.” Her husband runs a clinic without a license where he offers reparative therapy practices to any clients already abused enough to put themselves through it. She has made a large part of her career on opposing gay people and supporting bigoted, hateful policies against us. So of course, GOProud wants her autograph.
As gay-issue advocacy groups increase pressure on Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann over her views about homosexuality, the gay conservative group GOProud is requesting a meeting with the Republican presidential candidate to possibly lend a hand.
GOProud Executive Director Jimmy LaSalvia said that representatives with the organization have already met with some of the GOP candidates to discuss GOProud’s legislative agenda–including a commitment to defeat a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, which Bachmann supports–and they hope Bachmann will grant them some face time.
“We have requested a meeting with Michele Bachmann,” LaSalvia told The Ticket. “We’ve made this request, as with the other requests, in good faith.” He said GOProud officials intend to “discuss issues important to gay conservatives” with Bachmann and “anything she wishes to talk about.”
Chris Barron says he’s “concerned” about some of the things Michele has said in the past, but as the article points out, GOProud’s agenda isn’t really about anything resembling civil equality for gays and lesbians. They’re mostly a troupe of disaffected white men who value their white privilege and tax cuts above anything else. When they cozy up to Mitt Romney or someone like that, it’s annoying. To cozy up to the most supreme bigot running for the highest office in the land [Rick Perry isn't officially in yet] is gross and more than a little bit sad.

She and her husband Ladybird Marcus won’t go near them.
Sad, the Log Cabin Club has become slightly more normal so this group had to sweep in to occupy that really loony self-loathing group of gays.
“Normal” isn’t the world I meant. I meant something like “less full of self-hatred”–what with helping to get rid of DADT and all.
Oh yeah, I know what you mean, Daniel. You don’t get the feeling that LCR members go home at night and cry about being gay.
I’ve always thought a ‘Gay Republican’ was a bit of an oxymoron. Or is it just ‘moron’?
The fact that GOProud exists at all is another indicator of how the Republican Party has been hijacked by purity-seekers. Perhaps a more honest name for them would be GOPure (because LCR is not nearly pure enough).
*head/desk* (repeat until calm)
Are we sure these people are actually gay?
Never stops with those idiots at GOProud. Proud about what? Being a bunch of a*s-liking, spineless, self-loathing gays? I have to admit, that this is a new low, even for that lot.
I do not understand not wanting to free onbeself from self-hate. I do not understand placing transient economics over liberty, equality, and justice. I simply do not understand giving aid to those who are doing their best to keep you down, keep in the shadows, keep you living as a second-class citizen.
I could understand if the republican party was still going by its original principles of fiscal conservatism and small government – basically gov’t keeping out of peoples lives, justice, liberty etc and a NON-INTRUSIVE foreign policy.
Alas, it seems that since the rearly 80′s the party has become socially consevative, and has been taken over by evangelical nut-bars who want to take the country, nay the world, back to an imagined time of nuclear families, white picket fences and stepford wives with bullet-proof hair-do’s, a rose tinted fantasy that never actually existed.
When the republicans grow up, face reality and go back to their roots, then maybe gay people on the whole might be more interested.
However, until that time, and whist tea-bagging psychopaths like Bachmann and Santorum are looking like republican presidential nominees, then the LGBT community should have NOTHING to do with them.
Mwah! x.
@ Steve who said: “10.I do not understand not wanting to free onbeself from self-hate. I do not understand placing transient economics over liberty, equality, and justice.”
I think a lot of these people come from ultra-conservative families where the only thing worse than being gay is being a liberal.
So, they are “the good gays.” Dress like a conservative. Talk like a conservative. Fight, above all else, to maximize their bank accounts.
We often hear the GOProud and the Log Cabin gays condemn the “leftist gay community” for being hypocritical, for being hateful, and for stereotyping, but I don’t put any stock in those allegations, in most situations.
More often than not, I think the aforementioned are nothing but snobs who want nothing to do with the “tacky” mainstream gay community.
