Denise said: "I am simply trying to get rid of the stereotype that Christians who believe in the Bible cannot be supportive of homosexuality and cannot think for themselves".

If you believe in the Bible the way it has been traditionally received (inerrant in its sources and authorship) by the vast majority of Christians over the last 1700 years, then you would have to be religiously schizophrenic to actually be supportive of homosexuality (or feminism). If you think for yourself, then I fail to see how you can possibly accept the Bible as the word of an omniscient, omnipresent, omni-benevolent Being when it is filled with contradictions, talking animals, slaughtering of innocents and various mythopoetic events like the sun being fixed in the sky while a battle rages. If you embrace the modern tendency to cherry pick the feel good love portions of the Bible out and build your religious life around those, that's understandable, but it will not affect the stereotype of rigid Christianists that you dislike so much. That stereotype exists because the book they derive their inspiration to follow Christianity is written that way.

Denise said " I’m frustrated, though, because it’s becoming increasingly difficult to choose a side in politics due to the sharp contrast in beliefs.".

Why do you need to chose a side? Why can't you just have your own position that is neither completely once side or the other?

Wayne,

as a Christian, I have a firm belief in the Biblical doctrine. however, what I am seeing here with people like Engle is distorting it and taking it out of context in order to gain political power, which is disgusting if you ask me. it just makes me a little sick knowing that so many people are taking my faith (as well as many others') and blowing it way out of proportion

for your information, I've been raised around these beliefs my whole life, and I'm very aware of what these kinds of people would do upon knowing my sexual orientation

I am simply trying to get rid of the stereotype that Christians who believe in the Bible cannot be supportive of homosexuality and cannot think for themselves

now regarding politics, I am not pretending to be "too good" for them, and I am certainly not supporting rallies like this one. I'm frustrated, though, because it's becoming increasingly difficult to choose a side in politics due to the sharp contrast in beliefs. I hope you understand where I'm coming from

Denise:

It depends what you mean by conservative and "believe in the Bible." You can be a conservative and a Christian and still hold modern beliefs.

However, if you hold the beliefs that were articulated at The Call rally -- then you are indeed at odds with reality. If you don't believe me, go to the next stadium rally, announce your sexual orientation and prepare for people to pray for your "deliverance" and probably give you multiple exorcisms.

If you are okay with such medieval behavior, more power to you. If not, then stop pretending that you are too good for politics and start working to end such backward thinking -- because these people are targeting you too, if you bothered to notice.

hmm, so if I'm conservative and pro-life (not anti-choice, pro-life) AND I'm gay, then am I automatically a hypocrite?

if I'm a Christian and I believe in God and the Bible (and speaking in tongues), then am I automatically a religious freak and a threat to society?

you guys are making it harder for me to make a stand, because apparently I have to go completely conservative or completely liberal in my beliefs. I don't fully support either of them, but I partially support both

and people wonder why I hate politics.....

Wayne,

All I have to say is, you are my hero! Sitting through that rally as long as you did, I could never do that without starting a fight. Then putting these online bullies in their place.

Stay classy, Wayne!

Post 26: Evan

So gay black man goes to church also? Does said gay back man also believe in white man heaven? Is Jesus going to save your gayness?

Hard to tell if your for real or just making it up to prove your own demented believe.

Yes these people are delusional and dangerous to our society, never kid your self that people like this would not put us down like vermin if they where told to do so. They just need authority and some demented fear and we be having one fight in our hands.

I think back to all those nice experiments done in the 60 about following authority and even that has not changed, these kind of people are dangerous its just that they are not yet strong enough to impose their madness on the rest of us.

Keep up the great work I enjoyed the article.
