Historic Speech Elevates the Ongoing Struggle for LGBT Equality
BURLINGTON, VT. – Truth Wins Out praised President Barack Obama’s uplifting and inclusive inauguration speech today, which paid homage to the important gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender struggle for equality.
“We are ecstatic with the president’s speech, because it highlights his commitment to our movement’s fight for fairness and it’s historic role in America’s quest for expanding equal rights for all people,” said Wayne Besen, Executive Director for Truth Wins Out. “This uplifting speech shows precisely why our community played a significant role in the President’s reelection efforts.”
In front of a packed crowd on the National Mall, the president said:
“We, the people, declare today that the most evident of truths – that all of us are created equal – is the star that guides us still; just as it guided our forebears through Seneca Falls, and Selma, and Stonewall…Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law – for if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well.”
Truth Wins Out is a nonprofit organization that fights anti-LGBT extremism. TWO specializes in turning information into action by organizing, advocating and fighting for LGBT equality.

Yes, and the minister who did the benediction included us also — after that other bigot was forced to step down.
Yep — I’m glad we did all we could to get that intolerant bigot bumped from the stage. The last thing we needed was a troglodyte spewing fire and brimstone on national TV.
ps…I wonder how many dopes in Wingnutia thought he was referring to Stonewall Jackson!?
I can hear fundie heads popping all the way from Canada…got a craving for popcorn all of a sudden :)
did you see the LGBA band march past him? I was there, playing 4th bass drum!!
You go girl!
I live in Cambodia and missed the original as too late at night. I just watched it here and it brought tears. What a truly great speech.
